How to Blog as a Wedding Photographer
If you’re a wedding photographer and not blogging, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity. Blogging isn’t just about showing off pretty images - it’s one of the most effective ways to attract new couples, rank in Google, and book more weddings. Blogging is how I built my business, and ensured that I was creating content that could work for me for YEARS, not just days (or even hours) like Tiktok and Instagram. Blog content is evergreen; you create it once and it works to help you grow your business while also getting you noticed by Google.
While this piece is written specifically for wedding photographers this can absolutely be modified to work for family photographers, commercial photographers etc., just follow the same method and consider who your ideal client is in your delivery.
Here’s how to write blogs that work for you long after you’ve hit publish.
Why Blogging Matters for Photographers
Couples are searching for more than just “wedding photographer near me.” They’re Googling things like:
“Summer wedding at Langdon Hall”
“Best wedding venues in Ontario”
“Fall engagement session Waterloo”
Every time you blog a wedding or an educational piece, you’re creating content that has the potential to match what couples are already searching. That means higher visibility, more traffic to your site, and more inquiries.
The Anatomy of a High-Performing Wedding Blog
When you blog a wedding, you’re not just dumping photos. You’re telling a story, showcasing your talent, and giving Google something to chew on. Here’s the structure I recommend:
1. Start With an SEO-Friendly Title
“Elegant Fall Wedding at [Venue] | [Your Name Photography]”
Include the venue name and location for maximum visibility.
2. Intro Paragraph
Set the scene. Mention the couple, the venue, and your role. This is also where you can weave in your location keyword (ex: “As a Waterloo wedding photographer…”).
3. Tell the Couple’s Story
Couples connect with other couples. Share a little about who they are and why they chose that venue.
4. Highlight the Wedding Day
Break it into sections: getting ready, ceremony, portraits, reception. Add a mix of detail shots, candids, and moments that showcase your style.
5. Venue Spotlight
Take a moment to share why you love photographing at that venue and offer tips for couples considering it. This doubles as helpful content and SEO gold.
6. Vendor Credits
List and link vendors. This not only helps your couples but also builds relationships with vendors (who may then share your blog).
7. Wrap Up With a Call-to-Action
End with something like: “Planning a wedding at [Venue]? I’d love to capture your day. Reach out here to learn more.”
Quick SEO Wins You Shouldn’t Skip
Rename your image files before uploading (ex: langdon-hall-wedding-ceremony.jpg).
Write descriptive alt text with keywords.
Add internal links to other blogs on your site.
Keep paragraphs short and easy to skim.
How to Keep Blogging Sustainable
Blogging feels overwhelming when you think of it as “writing an essay for every wedding.” Instead, think of it as filling in a reusable template. The images do most of the heavy lifting - your words simply give them context and help your ideal client find you.
A good goal? Blog at least 1–2 weddings per month, and sprinkle in educational posts for couples (like “Best First Look Locations in Toronto”).
Resources & Tools to Make This Even Easier
I have a Focal website, which has built-in blogging tools including an AI blogging tool that helps write SEO-friendly blogs for you while beautifully displaying your images. I use Focal's tools, alongside Narrative Publish.
If you aren't a skilled writer, or you just need a bit of a boost - use ChatGPT to help you execute the written portion! Just ensure that you rewrite the content to sound like you and not a robot.. and of course feed it enough personalized information so the blog is written with your clients in mind.
Free Copy-and-Paste Blog Template
To make this easier, I’ve put together a wedding photography blog template you can copy, paste, and customize for each wedding. Grab the template here 👇🏼
Your blog is one of the few marketing tools that works for you 24/7. Instagram posts disappear in a day. TikToks get lost in the feed. But a well-written blog can rank in Google for years and bring you new couples while you sleep.
Start small, stay consistent, and let your blog quietly fill your calendar.
If this has inspired you to finally start (or continue) blogging, share a link to your recent blog in the comments!! 📸
